"Kinrara", in Gaelic "Ceann-Rara" is a Scottish reel in F Major the parts are played AB.<br> It was composed by William Marshall (1748-1833) at the request of Jane (Nee Maxwell), Duchess<br> of Gordon.<br> Fraser writes:<br> "This sprightly air commemorates the mirth and festivity kept up by the late<br> Duchess of Gordon at Kinrara, every memorial of whom calling to mind how much she is missed".<br> <br> The Duchess of Gordon built Kinrara House about 1804 on an estate of more than 1,000 acres,<br> after the collapse of her marriage to the fourth Duke. During the London Season, she lived in<br> Pall Mall, where she was the political hostess of her day. Her legendary London soirees were<br> repeated at Kinrara.<br> It was printed in Fraser's The Airs and Melodies Peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland and<br> the Isles (1816/1874) and<br> Stewart-Robertson's The Athole Collection (1884).<br> It was recorded by Abby Newton on Castles, Kirks and Caves (2001). <br>
